Don't throw away that quarter before checking to see if it is a collector's edition!

Five new quarter designs will be released each year in the order in which the states were admitted to statehood. According to H.E. Harris & Co., "From 1999 through 2008, the standard design on the reverse (tails) side of the Washington quarter will be replaced with a design representative of one of the fifty states. This redesign is the first change to the quarter in more than twenty years. The words "United States of America" and "quarter dollar" will be moved to the heads side of the new quarters, and the year of minting will appear on the tails side."

Each state coin will be minted both in Philadelphia and Denver, so be sure to collect two of each quarter: one with a "P" and one with a "D."
